This app uses the OCR framework (Optical Character Recognition) that allows for scanning and digitizing handwritten texts. There are thousands of physicians in Alberta, Canada, who must take paper notes during patient visits. Later, these notes are used to submit claims to the government for reimbursement for services provided by physicians in clinics.

Since it is not a type of app you can start using, I had to dive deeper in that billing-based experience for doctors to understand the flow and all pains in the process. I have interviewed a doctor from Canada who shared the experience for a physician who has to submit claims to get paid.

For each patient, the doctor makes notes on an A4 sheet (which procedures were done, how much time was spent, etc.).
OCR Icon
At the end of the week, the doctor has a stack of such A4s that need to be digitized.
OCR Icon
Then all the services provided to patients must be calculated by the doctor, and sent as claims to the government.
OCR Icon
Calculating and submitting take hours. Doctors spend their personal time on it, as their working hours are occupied by seeing patients.
OCR Icon
Some claims get rejected. Doctors then have to calculate the claims again and resend for additional review.
OCR Icon
The entire process takes a lot of time and exhausts doctors. As a result, doctors experience burnout due to that procedure.

More business and customer issues...

More than 50% of physicians burnout
Manual submission takes too much time
Doctors may enter incorrect data, which ultimately leads to cancellation.
For hospitals, it costs 1 mo to replace a physician
Billing agents prefer big volumes. They don't want to work with hand-written notes.
Often, doctors have to fill out claims during their personal time.
Too much non-physician work (bills calculation, filling claims)
A4 with notes can be lost, damaged.
There is no solution on the market for doctors' hand-written notes.

The doctor checks the form, invoice, and additional options and is ready to submit the claim.

Additionally to the app design, the client asked to create a logo. I've decided to combine two objects: location and sound since they are the main elements of the app.
